Weekly Message Themes

A baby sleeping on their back in a crib.When planning your Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Awareness Month activities, you may want to use weekly themes to help focus your messages throughout the month.

The Safe to Sleep® campaign will be using the following weekly message themes.

You are welcome to use these themes and the sample social media posts during SIDS Awareness Month and beyond as appropriate for your audiences.

Week 1 (October 4–10) Theme

Always place baby on their back to sleep to reduce the risk of SIDS.

Week 2 (October 11–17) Theme

Use a firm and flat mattress in a safety-approved* crib, free of soft and loose bedding, such as bumpers, stuffed animals, and blankets.

Week 3 (October 18–24) Theme

Share your room with baby. Keep baby close to your bed but on a separate surface, such as in a crib or bassinet next to your bed.

Week 4 (October 25–31) Theme

Breastfeed to reduce the risk of SIDS.
